Host Alumni on Saturday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Montpetit Hall
*Head coach James Derouin sees this alumni game as a “chance for the alumni to see the team, get to know the guys and have a good time. It’s a chance to catch up.”
*“[The men’s basketball team] has created a real family since [former head coach Dave DeAveiro] started in 2000. [This weekend] is a chance for the new recruits and transfers to see what they become a part of,” explains Derouin.
*Arguably one of the Gee-Gees most successful graduates, Ali Mahmoud (Ottawa, Ont.) will be on hand for the first time since being a student at uOttawa. Mahmoud played for the Gee-Gees in 2002-2003 before signing a professional contract with a Division 1 team in Lebanon. Mahmoud is still playing in Lebanon as a guard for the club Al Riyadi in Beirut and recently played for Lebanon in the 2010 FIBA World Championships. Mahmoud was second in the tournament in steals with 13, averaging 2.6 per game.
*“It is exciting to host [the alumni game] as head coach, [but] it means I can’t play,” says Derouin with a smile, “I was always a big part of organizing the alumni game. It is my favourite weekend.”
*Alumni and current members of the Gee-Gees men’s basketball team will regroup after the game at Father and Sons.
