Men’s Basketball (8-9 OUA)
@ York (8-9 OUA) on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
@ Laurentian (6-11 OUA) on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
The Gee-Gees will be back on the road after a busy two weeks at home, travelling to Toronto to face York and then up to Sudbury to face Laurentian the following night.
“This is the toughest road trip of the year,” explained head coach James Derouin as the teams prepares to travel to Toronto on Thursday, play York on Friday, then travel to Sudbury overnight to face Laurentian on Saturday night – and then immediately start the drive back to Ottawa.
“It is a huge weekend for us,” said Derouin, “We had a nice lead on York at home and let it slip away; it was a really tough loss.” And being tied for third with York in the OUA East standings only puts further pressure on the Gee-Gees as the loss is currently the tie-breaker.
And Laurentian is always a dangerous at home, not only due to the travel, but there is always a packed crowd in Sudbury. The Gee-Gees will also have to look out for the Pasquale brothers who are both on the OUA scoring leader board. “If we can stop them, we’ll be fine; but that’s easier said than done,” noted Derouin, “They [Laurentian] can shoot from anywhere; they’re a tough match.”
“We need a big win, a signature win, to identify our team. We’re playing better and we need to show that we’re playing better with a couple of big wins. We’ve had a bunch of signature losses, but we’re tired of playing well and coming up short. We need to play well and punctuate it with a couple of wins on the road this weekend. We need a signature win instead of just a signature loss,” said Derouin.
Despite a few minor injuries, the entire team will be hitting the road this weekend. Stay tuned to www.geegees.ca for full news and results!
