With a 6-9 record, the Gee-Gees know how important each game is now in the final weeks of the season before playoffs. And the heat is turned up especially strong this weekend as the Gee-Gees are currently tied with Laurentian and Ryerson and only a game behind York in the OUA East.
The Gee-Gees took to the big stage of the Capital Hoops Classic at Scotiabank Place against the undefeated Carleton Ravens on Wednesday, and despite a valiant effort, the Ravens maintained their undefeated status in a 78-65 victory.
“Time and time again we show that we can play with the top teams in the country. When we are rebounding the ball, especially, and defending like we were holding [Carleton] to 78 points, we can do it. Going into this weekend against Queen’s we just got to make sure there is no let down, and make sure we understand the importance of Friday’s game to clinch a playoff spot. [Wednesday’s] game was important for different reasons, but Friday’s game is more important than this really,” explained an upbeat James Derouin, head coach of the Gee-Gees, following Wednesday night’s Capital Hoops Classic against Carleton.
With five games in eight days, the Gee-Gees will need to maintain their focus in order to capitalize on the opportunities presented to them this weekend.
The garnet and grey will host Queen’s and RMC for a rematch of two weeks ago. The Gee-Gees captured a 88-70 win over Queen’s and stormed to a 105-33 triumph over RMC when in Kingston the third weekend of January.
Be sure to support and cheer on your Gee-Gees at Montpetit Hall this weekend as they host their last set of games until a single rematch against Carleton on February 18 to close the regular season!
