Although Saturday night’s game was not one of their bests, it was enough for the Gee-Gees to overcome the Laurentian Voyageurs in game two of this weekend’s basketball action at the Montpetit Hall.
The Gee-Gees had a remarkable start, outscoring the Voyageurs 30-9 after the first quarter, and leading by 14 at the half.
Despite falling apart partway through the second half, the Gee-Gees continued to persevere, with second-year guard Warren Ward (London, Ont.) slamming one down in the fourth quarter to raise the energy and help the Gee-Gees to their 91-69 feat over the Voyageurs.
“Good team effort,” said Ward, who was the team’s second highest scorer with 22 points and the top rebounder with 11. “We pulled through to win.”
Toronto native Josh Gibson-Bascombe led both teams in scoring with 30 points and also had an impressive 7 steals.
“The guys battled it out tonight,” noted head coach Dave DeAveiro. “We’ll continue to play hard.”
The Gee-Gees travel to Toronto next weekend to take on the Toronto Blues (6-4 OUA) Friday, January 15, and the Ryerson Rams (4-6 OUA) on Saturday, January 16. Game times are 8:00 p.m.
