Men’s Basketball (2-1 OUA, 11-5 overall)
Versus Western (2-1, OUA) Friday, November 13, 8:00 p.m. at Montpetit Hall
Western 25 76
uOttawa 18 87
Mustangs: Marcus Barnett 24 points.
Gee-Gees: Warren Ward (Brampton, Ontario) 30 points, Josh Gibson-Bascombe (Toronto, Ontario) 21.
It doesn’t get any better for Josh Gibson-Bascombe.
His basketball team won and he became the Gee-Gees all time leading scorer all in one night.
The magic moment came in the first half of Friday nights 87-76 victory over the Western Mustangs when he picked up five points to shatter Alex McLeods record of 1,167 career points.
Gibson-Bascombe was 39 points shy of the record when he started the current season.
With 35 points in last weekend’s matches against Brock and Guelph the fifth year veteran set the new mark at Montpetit Hall.
My main goal is always a win but to break the record at home is a great feeling, Gibson-Bascombe admitted.
As far as the game goes the Gee-Gees were in control the whole way leading 25-18 after the first quarter, 49-36 at the half and 65-56 after three.
After watching tapes of Western we knew we would have to be prepared for Friday’s game and execute defensively, said Gee-Gees head coach Dave DeAveiro.
