The Gee-Gees added yet another win to their record Saturday evening as they went on to defeat the York Lions 85-71. The Lions upset the No. 1 Carleton Ravens Friday evening, 80 -74.
The Gee-Gees had an impressive start, leading 21-9 at the end of the first quarter. York turned things around in the second quarter, outscoring the Gee-Gees 18-16.
Both the Lions and the Gee-Gees continued to play quite evenly in the second half, but the Gee-Gees managed to maintain the lead to take their second win on the road this weekend.
Fifth-year guard Josh Gibson-Bascombe (Toronto, Ont.) had another strong performance, scoring 32 points, and amassing 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Second-year guard Warren Ward (London, Ont.) was the second leading scorer for the Gee-Gees with 22 points, 9 rebounds.
“We got off to a good start. The first quarter is what made the difference,” said Gee-Gees head coach Dave DeAveiro.
DeAveiro also noted that fourth-year forward Louis Gauthier (Ottawa, Ont.) gave a solid performance for the Gee-Gees, scoring 14 points and 7 rebounds.
“It was a successful road trip, especially considering the travelling,” added DeAveiro.
The Gee-Gees are on the road again next weekend, facing Queen’s (10-9 OUA) on Friday, February 12, and RMC (0-19 OUA) Saturday, February 13. Game times are 8:00 p.m.
