The Gee-Gees recorded their ninth consecutive win Friday evening as they defeated the RMC Paladins (0-14 OUA) at home at the Montpetit Hall.
It was definite team collaboration, with everyone scoring a basket and nearly all players playing double digit minutes. The bench put in an outstanding performance, with second-year guard Max Clarkson (Peterborough, Ont.) and first-year rookie Kemeish Edwards (Brampton, Ont.) leading the Gee-Gees in scoring with 18 points a piece.
First-year forward Ryan Malcolm-Campbell (Mississauga, Ont.) picked it up for the Gee-Gees in the last quarter, scoring nine points to combine for points 12 points and 7 rebounds.
“We came out strong,” said Malcolm-Campbell. “The freshmen put in a great effort. We have a big game [against Queen’s] tomorrow night, so tonight’s game will help build up the momentum.”
Despite the score, the Paladins put in a solid effort. With just three subs on the bench, one of which only played four minutes, the team clearly demonstrated their physical strength and determination. Third-year forward Nicolas Cook (Georgetown, Ont.) led his team in points with 22 points, 7 rebounds.
“Everyone got the opportunity to play and that’s what we wanted,” said Gee-Gees head coach Dave DeAveiro. “And in doing so we were also able to rest up some of our starters for tomorrow’s game.”
The Gee-Gees will look to keep the winning streak alive tomorrow evening as they take on Queen’s University (7-7 OUA) at 8:00 p.m. (SSN Canada, Rogers)
