MEN’S BASKETBALL (0-1 OUA, 9-5 OVERALL)
At Brock (1-0 OUA) Friday, November 6, 8:00 p.m. for season-opener game.
Clinton Springer-Williams, 22 - Brock
Josh Gibson-Bascombe, 17; Warren Ward, 16 – uOttawa
It was almost another overtime game Friday evening for the Gee-Gees men’s basketball team, whose game was slightly delayed due to the women’s match-up going into overtime, but the Brock Badgers finished one bucket ahead to finish things off after the fourth quarter, defeating the Gee-Gees 72-70.
It was an even battle for the Gee-Gees and the Badgers. Fifth-year guard Josh Gibson-Bascombe(Toronto, Ont.) attempted to tie things up with 12 seconds left in the game, but was not successful in the shot, and the Gee-Gees would record their first loss of the season.
“It was a close game throughout,” said head coach Dave DeAveiro. “We shot much better in the second half, but we gave a lot of turnovers; that made a difference.”
The Gee-Gees shot 51% in the second half, as opposed to 24% in the first half. Gibson-Bascombe scored 17 points to lead the Gee-Gees in scoring, followed by second-year guard Warren Ward (Brampton, Ont.) with 16 points and 6 rebounds, and fourth-year forward Louis Gauthier (Ottawa, Ont.) with 14 points, 6 rebounds.
The Gee-Gees defeated Brock last season, 81-61.
The Gee-Gees will play their second game of the season tomorrow evening on the road against the Guelph Gryphons (0-1 OUA) at 8:00 p.m.
