The uOttawa Gee-Gees men’s basketball program is proud to announce the addition of Ottawa top prospect Vikas Gill, Ottawa, Ont. The 6’7” forward and Ottawa native will suit up for the garnet and grey for the 2011-12 season while working towards a bachelor of commerce degree.
Gee-Gees head coach James Derouin is very excited to welcome Gill to the fold: “His ability to shoot the ball is something the program is focusing on with this year’s recruiting class. For his size and position, we feel that he was one of the best outside shooters in the year’s class.”
“[He’s] an excellent team defender, unselfish passer, and a product of great coaching, both with the Guardsmen club programs and with Sacred Heart coach Tony House. Not to mention a strong student and a great teammate,” added Derouin.
As for Gill, he feels very comfortable with his decision to attend the University of Ottawa and play for head coach James Derouin: “[James] was a great recruiter. He’s a young coach who I could really connect well with. He has a good plan for the future and a great recruiting class coming in. I just felt like I had the best chance of winning a CIS national championship [with uOttawa].”
“The team is still young, Johnny [Berhanemeskel] is a great player, and Warren [Ward], I’m excited to play with. And just the fact that there’s great coaching, and it’s a local team. I just feel it’s the right fit for me,” added Gill.
Gill will bring some much needed floor presence to fill the void created with the departure of both fifth-year forwards Louis Gauthier and Nemanja Baletic next season.
