The Gee-Gees, presently 5-1 this season when at Montpetit Hall, are hoping some of that home court advantage will continue rub off this weekend as they host Laurentian and York in two key games this weekend.

The OUA East second-place Gee-Gees have a three victory lead on their next closest opponents, and as head coach James Derouin explained, “If we win both games this weekend, then we’ve almost clinched second. Friday night is a big, big game.”

The Gee-Gees will need to be sharp in their defence with the Pasquale brothers from Laurentian invading Montpetit Hall on Friday. Manny Pasquale has a 24.4 points per game average in his nine games this season, and big brother Isiah Pasquale’s 14.73 points per game isn’t to be taken lightly either. The Gee-Gees had a 91-80 win in their visit to Sudbury the beginning of January, but the Voyageurs have since gone on a five game win streak.

Gee-Gees second-year guard, and this week's Desjardins uOttawa athlete of the week, Johnny Berhanemeskel (Ottawa, Ont.) is currently eighth in OUA scoring with his 16.60 points per game, highlighted by his near perfect 31 point game – missing only one shot – in Saturday’s 87-58 win over Queen’s.

“The Carleton game really opened things up for us, coaches in particular, even some of our young guys,” said Derouin on the team’s renewed focus, “We were starting to think we were pretty good and Carleton put us in our place. You can look at it as a negative, but we’re really looking at it as a positive. Carleton’s a team poised to win a national championship, and we’re trying to get there. They showed us what we need to do to get there.”
