The men’s basketball team travelled to Montreal on Thursday night to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Americans used a strong fourth quarter on the offensive end to take a 84-65 victory, giving uOttawa a 1-3 record against NCAA competition this season.
Ottawa showed its competitiveness against the size and athleticism brought by Texas Tech, trailing 35-30 at halftime despite a lower than average shooting performance. The Gee-Gees gave up 33 points in the fourth quarter, leading to the lopsided final score.
Mike Gibson L’Africain led Ottawa with 18 points, and Mehdi Tihani had a strong showing with 11 points. Brody Maracle made his first appearance in garnet and grey, providing a strong presence in the post and hustling throughout.
The Gee-Gees will next be in action late in September, taking on CCAA opponents before hosting the Jack Donohue Tip-Off Tournament October 30 through November 1.
