Men’s Basketball (0-2 OUA)
At McMaster (1-1 OUA) on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
uOttawa – Warren Ward 22 points, 7 rebounds; Christopher Anderson 11 points, 13 rebounds
McMaster – Nathan Pelech 17 points, 7 rebounds; Adam Presutti 13 points, 3 rebounds
The Gee-Gees dropped a 73-69 decision while at McMaster on Saturday night, falling to 0-2 on their first weekend of the season.
For the second night in a row, the Gee-Gees lost by only a handful of points as McMaster pulled away in the final minute just enough to secure a four point victory over the visiting Gee-Gees. The Gee-Gees struggled on multiple fronts in tonight’s loss, going 1/11 from behind the arc, missing 16 free throws and turning the ball over 24 times.
“It’s next to impossible to win when you give a team that many chances,” said head coach James Derouin, “We didn’t do the little things we needed to win and in the end it cost us the game.”
Veteran fourth-year guard Warren Ward (London, Ont.) led the Gee-Gees in scoring with 22 points, while second-year forward Chris Anderson (Ottawa, Ont.) had a stand-out performance finishing with a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
“That’s basically what we’ll go back to work on; it’s the little things that are adding up,” said Derouin, “It’s amazing that we’re even close in these games with all the little mistakes we make. We were in this division last year and we sorted it out as we moved forward. So we’re looking to regain our focus, fix it up and get back on track.”
The Gee-Gees will look for redemption as they return home to Montpetit Hall for their home opener against Windsor (2-0) on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
