Men’s Basketball (2-2 OUA, 11-5 overall)
Versus Windsor (3-1, OUA) Saturday, November 14, 8:00 p.m. at Montpetit Hall
Lancers: Isaac Kuon (Mississauga, Ontario) 23 points
Gee-Gees: Josh Gibson-Bascombe (Toronto, Ontario) 25 points
It’s only four games into the regular season but the Gee-Gees and Lancers played Saturday night’s contest like it was mid March.
Intensity, battles under the basket, great shots, numerous lead changes, the game had everything a basketball fan could ask for and more.
The two teams matched each other step for step during regulation with overtime needed to decide a winner.
“This game was certainly filled with excitement, we (Ottawa) had our opportunities to win this game but let them slip out of our hands,” said Gee-Gees assistant coach Carlos Brown.
One chance that Brown is talking about occurred in the final seconds of regulation with the score tied 70-70. Gibson-Bascombe had a chance for a game winning buzzer beater but the ball was stripped out his hands by a Windsor defender forcing OT.
John Woldu’s clutch three-pointer in the last minute of OT was the difference for Windsor as the Lancers pulled out the win.
Windsor led for most of the game before the Gee-Gees started pulling even midway through the fourth quarter.
The Gee-Gees will be in town next week-end as they entertain the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night, November 20 at Montpetit Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
The Laurier Hawks will provide the opposition on Saturday, November 21.. Game time is 8:00 p.m
