Visiting Guelph (3-1 OUA) on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
After a very successful home opener weekend that saw the Gee-Gees put two wins under their belt, the team will be tested this weekend to see if they can carry on this momentum as they face an extremely tough road trip to Lakehead and Guelph.
“This is without question the toughest road trip of the season,” said head coach James Derouin with the team traveling to Thunder Bay followed immediately by Guelph the following night, “Not only does the team have to contend with two flights on game days but also two extremely tough opponents in Lakehead and Guelph. This is will be a true test of the team’s toughness and resolve.”
Luckily, the Gee-Gees began to build some strong momentum this past weekend with a big 69-65 win over Windsor on Friday night followed by a 84-57 win over Western. Despite only an even 2-2 record, the Gee-Gees currently sit second in the OUA East, with a very strong OUA West pulling out the majority of the wins in cross-province matches so far this season.
Number one in the OUA West and third in the country, Lakehead is currently undefeated after registering a close 68-63 win over Toronto this past weekend. Guelph’s only loss so far this season came in last Friday’s 68-66 loss to Ryerson.
Fourth-year guard Warren Ward (London, Ont.) led the Gee-Gees in scoring in both wins with a combined 43 points and 15 rebounds, enough to earn him honours as the CIS, OUA Pioneer Energy and uOttawa Desjardins male athlete of the week.
