GAME STORY:

It was a game of intensity as the Gee-Gees men’s basketball team battled it out against the Gaels  Saturday evening at the Montpetit Hall.

The Gee-Gees picked up the momentum in the second half, scoring more points in each the third and fourth quarters than their first and second quarters combined, to defeat the Gaels 81-69.

uOttawa’s all-time leading scorer Josh Gibson-Bascombe (Toronto, Ont.) once again led the team with 28 points, 8 rebounds, and fifth-year guard Donnie Gibson (Kingston, Ont.) chipped in 18 points, two rebounds for the win.

First-year rookie and one of last night’s leading scorers Kemeish Edwards (Brampton, Ont.) also put in a stunning performance in his six minutes of playing time, shooting 100% from the paint, the three point line and the free-throw line to contribute 10 points for the team.

“Queen’s is a good team,” said Edwards. “We knew coming into this game that we had to defend some key players and knock down some points to win. This win will help keep up our confidence going into the Capital Hoops game; we think we’ll give Carleton a good run”

Head coach Dave DeAveiro was pleased with the team’s performance, noting good leadership on the court from veteran players Donnie Gibson and Josh Gibson-Bascombe. “We played a tough game tonight, Queen’s is a good team,” said DeAveiro. “We knew we had to move the ball a little bit more on offence in the second half, and we did that.”

Next, the Gee-Gees will face the cross-town rivals Carleton Ravens in less than a week at the Scotiabank Place in the fourth annual MBNA Capital Hoops Classic  (SSN Canada, Rogers). The women’s game is set to kick off at 6:00 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.geegees.ca.
