The Gee-Gees men’s basketball team have been ranked number ten in the country in this week’s CIS Top Ten, the first time the team has appeared on the poll this season. The top ten spot comes on the heels of two more road victories for the team, who are riding a six game win streak heading into the December break.
Ottawa (7-1) is one of three OUA East teams in this week’s poll, with Ryerson (8-0) just ahead in ninth spot and the Carleton Ravens (7-1) holding on to their top ranking. Windsor (5-2), the only team to defeat the Gee-Gees so far this regular season, also stays on the list in eighth spot.
Statistically, Ottawa is fifth in the country in field goal percentage and have allowed the ninth lowest average points against.
It is the first national ranking for Ottawa since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, and the Gee-Gees’ 7-1 start to the year is the best since the 2008-09 season. That year, the team also sat at 7-1 at the December break before going on to the national championships at Scotiabank Place.
The women’s volleyball team also maintains their Top Ten ranking, although they slide to seventh spot in this edition. At 9-1 the Gee-Gees are second in the OUA, having lost only to 8-0 York. The Lions have leapfrogged the Gee-Gees in the rankings and now sit in a tie for fifth in the Top Ten.
