The Gee-Gees recorded their first win of the season Saturday evening, blowing past the Guelph Gryphons 80-53.
The Gee-Gees controlled most of the game, having the lead over Guelph at the end of each quarter. The Gee-Gees continued to outshoot the Gryphons in the second half to secure a 27 point win.
Fifth-year guard Josh Gibson-Bascombe (Toronto, Ont.) and second-year guard Warren Ward (Brampton, Ont.) were the tops scorers of the game, each contributing 18 points to the scoreboard. Third-year centreMatt Riendeau (Ottawa, Ont.) was not far behind, scoring 17 points towards the win.
“The difference today is that we came out with much more intensity on the defensive end,” said head coachDave DeAveiro. “We made shots tonight that we didn’t make yesterday.”
The Gee-Gees almost doubled the Gryphons in points in the second half, scoring 39 points and holding them to 20. The Gryphons outshot the Gee-Gees in the second quarter,
The Gee-Gees are at home next weekend, hosting Western Friday, November 13, 8:00 p.m. for their home-opener game and Windsor on Saturday, November 14, 8:00 p.m.
