The OUA announced the East Division All-Stars this morning in advance of the Major Awards breakfast which will be held as part of the Wilson Cup Final Four weekend on Friday morning. Two Gee-Gees were honoured as All-Stars this season.
Fourth-year guard Johnny Berhanemeskel earned his third straight nod for the OUA East First Team. The Ottawa native ranked fourth in the OUA and sixth in the country with 20.5 points per game, which accomplished by shooting 53 per cent from the floor. Berhanemeskel finished the season with 451 total points which set a Gee-Gees record, and he also established a new uOttawa record for three-pointers made in a career. His regular season total now stands at 247.
Terry Thomas was also recognized by the league, earning a spot on the OUA East Second Team. Thomas missed the opening eight games of the regular season but then went on a tear through the final 14, averaging 22.4 points per game to rank third in the OUA and fourth in the CIS. The Nova Scotia native produced a series of big games for Ottawa and scored over 40 points twice. He also contributed defensively with 30 steals and 5.9 rebounds per game.
The OUA Major Awards Breakfast will take place at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, February 28. The Gee-Gees tip-off in the provincial semifinal later that day, facing the McMaster Marauders at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Sportsnet ONE.
