Represents the first FieldTurf Revolution FIFA 2-Star Recommended field in North America

OTTAWA, CANADA (August 8, 2011) – The University of Ottawa’s Matt Anthony Field has earned FIFA 2-Star recommended status following a resurfacing of the field by industry-leader FieldTurf. This marks the very first FieldTurf Revolution FIFA recommended field in North America.

Home primarily to the Gee-Gees women’s soccer and women’s rugby teams, Matt Anthony Field is also the practice facility for the men’s football team. The newly installed FieldTurf surface was completed in June 2011 and has already received rave reviews from uOttawa athletes and coaches.

“The University of Ottawa strives to provide state-of-the-art facilities for our students and our athletes,” said University of Ottawa Athletic Director Luc Gélineau. “This is an innovative turf system that has been designed for high performance and excellent longevity. We truly believe we have the highest quality artificial turf system in the world today.”

This field has been designed specifically to mirror elite levels of playing characteristics for soccer. The FieldTurf system has gained recognition within the global soccer community for providing ideal levels of energy restitution, grass-like ball performance, and proper shock absorption.

"FieldTurf Revolution was designed to be the benchmark of excellence in the industry,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “We are happy that Matt Anthony Field has received a FIFA 2-Star rating as it validates the level of quality and attention that goes into producing our fields. We can assure the Gee-Gees administration, players and fans that they are playing on the most innovative artificial turf system available today."

The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees have three varsity programs that practice or compete on Matt Anthony Field: women’s soccer, women’s rugby and men’s football. In addition, hundreds of competitive and recreational athletes use the facility each week for intramurals, recreational drop-ins and community programming.
