The uOttawa athletes of the week for January 16 are Sarah Besselink and Adam Beveridge. Both student-athletes helped to lead their teams to undefeated weekends with the women’s basketball team earning a pair of wins and the men’s hockey team sweeping its three-game homestand.
Besselink got into a serious groove this weekend, scoring 20 points on back-to-back nights. The fourth-year Human Kinetics student was an efficient shooter and also contributed 10 rebounds, five blocks, and four assists to the pair of Gee-Gees wins. Besselink, who hails from Kingston, Ont., leads the garnet and grey in scoring this season with an average of 12.9 points per game which is her career best. Besselink and the Gee-Gees take on the Carleton Ravens on Tuesday night at Montpetit Hall.
Beveridge had a five-point weekend from the blue line, notching points in each of Ottawa’s three wins. The Ottawa native and accounting student scored the team’s first goal in a 5-0 win over Laurentian on a blast from the point and added four assists during the weekend. Beveridge played for the Pembroke Lumber Kings before joining the Gee-Gees and now has four goals and seven assists this season to rank first among Gee-Gees defencemen.
