The uOttawa athletes of the week are Jen Stoqua of the women’s basketball team and Montana Champagne from the men’s swimming team.
Stoqua led Ottawa to a pair of wins to close out the regular season this weekend, finishing first in the OUA North Division. The guard had an incredible shooting weekend, sinking ten three-point baskets on Friday night and another nine on Saturday. The previous Gee-Gees single game record for three-pointers was seven, and no other player in the CIS this season has made more than eight. Stoqua was a combined 19-29 from long distance and finished the weekend with 58 points. Her 30 points in Friday’s game is the first 30-point performance from a Gee-Gee since 2011.
Montana Champagne had an outstanding first appearance at the CIS Championships, helping the Gee-Gees men’s team to a best-ever team finish. The rookie from Ottawa appeared in three individual finals achieving fourth, sixth, and ninth place finishes in the 400 individual medley, 200 IM, and the 200-metre breaststroke. He also established two new Gee-Gees records and helped the men’s 400-metre medley relay team to a ninth place finish.
