Ontario University Athletics announced its Major Award Winners and All-Stars on Tuesday afternoon, leading up to the Critielli Cup conference championship which lies ahead this weekend at Queen’s University. Following a 13-6 regular season campaign the Gee-Gees women’s basketball squad had two of its members recognized among the all-stars this season.
Sarah Besselink was named to the conference Second Team of All-Stars after leading the garnet and grey with a career high of 13.8 points per game. The fourth-year Human Kinetics student had several memorable performances this season including five games in which she scored 20 or more points. This is the first all-star recognition for the Kingston, Ont. product since her rookie year when she was named to the OUA All-Rookie team.
On the All-Rookie team this year is Drummondville, Que. native Amélie Hachey who showed off her offensive upside with a career high of 18 points in Ottawa’s come-back win over the Brock Badgers early in the regular season. Hachey went on to notch double-digit points in seven games was third in team scoring with an average of 6.8 points in 16.4 minutes per game.
