The uOttawa women's basketball team starters had the day off as the Gee-Gees tipped off the Rouge et Or Holiday tournament hosted by Laval against Montmorency College, a CEGEP team from Laval, Que. The Nomades, who are defending Canadian College Athletics Association national champions, took a 48-28 victory.
After a mighty offensive struggle in the first half, the garnet and grey were even with the Nomades in the final twenty minutes with the teams picking up 17 points each. The Nomades leaned heavily on Junior National Team player Mael Gilles, who recorded 20 rebounds in the contest.
“It was a good game from the perspective that we got to see a lot more of our players,” said Gee-Gees head coach Andy Sparks who noted that each player other than his regular season starting five logged approximately 20 minutes.
The Gee-Gees were successful scoring from inside but had difficulty finding the mark from long distance, notching just one three in the game.
The players and coaches will enjoy a night of team-building at a Quebec Remparts game before continuing the tournament with an 11:30 matchup against the Windsor Lancers on Tuesday, December 29.
