The Gee-Gees kicked off the start of their 2010 regular season games Friday evening hosting the York Lions and recorded their first victory of 2010, defeating the Lions 79-50.
The Gee-Gees and Lions kept it close in the first half, with the Gee-Gees leading by five at the end of both the first and second quarter.
The Gee-Gees picked things up in the second half, outscoring York 46-22.
“We tired them out in the second [half],” said head coach Andy Sparks. “We still have to work on our defence, but we’re definitely moving ahead.”
Third-year centre Hannah-Sunley Paisley (Toronto, Ont.) had a strong performance, leading both teams in scoring with 29 points and 16 rebounds.
“It was good to get a solid win [against York],” said Sunley-Paisley. “Last time we defeated York the game went into triple overtime,” she explained.
This win now brings the team’s regular season record to 6-4.
