Cape Breton 30 62
uOttawa – Hannah Sunley-Paisley
After defeating both Dalhousie and New Brunswick earlier this weekend, the Gee-Gees were not able to pull off the last win, as they lost to the Cape Breton Capers Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the Don Grant Classic in Moncton.
The Capers took the lead early in the game, leading by three points at the half. The Gee-Gees came out hard in the third and took a late lead, but were unable to hold onto it, as the Capers came back to win it, 62-58. Leading the Gee-Gees in scoring was third-year centre Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto, Ont.), who also led the team in scoring in the two previous games. She was named the game MVP of these two games.
“It was a very good weekend,” said head coach Andy Sparks who, despite the loss, was very satisfied with the team’s execution. The Don Grant Classic was the Gee-Gees’ first out of town tournament this season. “This was the type of environment we needed to see.”
“Cape Breton is ranked among the top five teams in Canada,” explained Sparks. The Gee-Gees demonstrated that they too are capable at competing at the same level. “We are definitely a competitive team.”
On this note, the Gee-Gees end their pre-season with a 9-3 record.
The Gee-Gees begin their regular season on November 3rd at 7:00 p.m. as they take on the cross-town rival Carleton Ravens at Carleton.
