The Gee-Gees women’s basketball team moved its regular season record to 9-5 with a 77-36 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday night. It was all Ottawa in the second half of the game as the garnet and grey outscored the home side 48-21 in the final twenty minutes.
Stephanie MacDonald and Krista van Slingerland led the way, scoring 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Algoma shot 33 per cent from the floor thoughout the game, consistent in both halves. However, the Thunderbirds committed 24 turnovers and were outrebounded 33-21. Ottawa picked up 15 offensive rebounds.
The Gee-Gees were on point from long range, sinking 9 of 22 treys including two from van Slingerland. Overall, Ottawa shot 44 per cent from the field.
