The uOttawa Gee-Gees women’s basketball team made good on their longest road trip of the season to defeat the Laurentian Voyageurs 72-50 in Sudbury, Ont., on Saturday night.
Third-year forward Jenna Gilbert, Ottawa, Ont., seems to have found her groove of late, and led the charge for the Gee-Gees tonight with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Fourth-year centre Hannah Sunley-Paisley, Toronto, Ont., also had another solid night, and finishes with 30 points, 21 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 6 steals on the weekend.
Still, head coach Andy Sparks wanted to point out the strong play as well from second-year point-guard Kayte Chase, Cornwall, Ont., who stepped up off the bench with 12 pts.
“A solid effort by the girls, particularly in the second half. It was a good result for us, Kayte Chase stepped nicely for us at the points guard spot, and Jenna Gilbert had her best game so far,” said coach Sparks.
The Gee-Gees will be on the road again next weekend in Toronto for some big games, and a chance to move up in the OUA East Division standings.
