The Gee-Gees season is on hiatus as student-athletes complete the December exam schedule and the University of Ottawa observes its holiday break period from December 23-January 2.
The final event of the 2017 schedule was held December 8-10 as some members of the swim team competed at the Grand Prix Gatineau. The swim team will come back together on December 27 to travel to Florida for the annual winter training trip. The team will return on January 7 with two competitions scheduled in January before the OUA Championships February 8-9. The men’s team enters 2018 ranked no. 6 in the U SPORTS Top Ten.
Regular season play returns for the basketball and hockey teams on Friday, January 5. That night the basketball teams host the University of Toronto, women’s hockey (6-2-1 and fighting for first place in RSEQ) is at home against Carleton, and the men’s hockey team travels to McGill. All four of these teams will play a second game on the first weekend of 2018 and will have a quiet break to prepare with no exhibition games planned. The basketball teams host Ryerson for a high-stakes double-header on Saturday, January 6.
Women’s volleyball will travel for exhibition play, opening up 2018 by visiting McMaster and Guelph on January 5 and 6. The regular season returns with a home match against Laval on January 13.
The track and field team got its competition schedule underway on December 2 at McGill and will next compete on January 13, beginning a busy month of competition leading into the OUA Championships which will be held at the University of Windsor, February 23-24.
Student tickets for the Capital Hoops Classic at Canadian Tire Centre, February 2, will be on sale on campus beginning January 8.
