The Gee-Gees football team had some solid representation on the OUA All-Rookie team released on Tuesday. Quarterback Alex Lavric, offensive lineman Tanner Bishop, and defensive end Alain Pae were all representatives of the Garnet and Grey on the list.
Lavric, a native of Mississauga, Ont. was unexpectedly thrust into action in his first season with the Gee-Gees. The Lorne Park Secondary School product played in or started seven regular season games, as well as the team’s first home playoff game in six years. Lavric posted solid numbers with 1,409 passing yards and eight touchdowns, with an overall completion rate of 55 per cent for the year. At a school known for their stellar quarterback play, Lavric has begun to fit the mold of becoming another great Gee-Gees quarterback.
Bishop, transitioning from junior football to U SPORTS, saw great success on a Gee-Gees offensive line that was trying to establish their rhythm. A highly-touted recruit from Vernon, B.C., Bishop impressed with his athleticism and strength at right guard. Although a mid-season injury cost him some playing time, Bishop looks to be a key member of the Gee-Gees' offensive line going forward.
Pae, a first-year player with perhaps the most intriguing story, arrived in Ottawa from Prague, Czech Republic with raw athleticism and a will to represent uOttawa on the field. Having sat out last season, Pae made the most of his sole year of eligibility, racking up 25.5 tackles and six sacks from his defensive end spot.
