1995 was a special season for the uOttawa’s football program as five of its offensive tackles were from Quebec. George Savard, Éric Labbé, Claude Provencher, Steven Salter and Constantin Shousha were all from la Belle Province and part of the Gee-Gees offensive line. A few years before, Larry Ring was named head coach and it was then that he began to recruit athletes from the CEGEP AAA teams from the other side of the river. With the help of his assistants, Denis Piché and Phil Roberts, Ring was able to make uOttawa a destination of choice for Quebec student-athletes who wished to study in French. The Gee-Gees had a successful 1995 season as they won the Dunsmore Cup before losing in the national semifinals. In addition to that, Steven Salter was named to the conference’s first all-star team. George Savard and Carlo Disipio were named to the second team.
