The Competitive Team:
Entering its 26th season, the University of Ottawa competitive dance team consists of about 20 to 25 advanced dancers. Most of the dancers have been training for more than 10 years in various styles including ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, acro, musical theater, and tap. In both the 2015 and 2016 seasons, the team was awarded 4th overall University at Rhythm Dance Challenge in Toronto, winning overall awards for solos, multiple judges choice awards, and choreography awards.
The team participates in two university dance competitions each year, competing against numerous other university teams from Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec, as well as puts on a year-end showcase at the Ottawa Little Theatre in March. The team performs at many events such as school sports games (football and basketball), charity events (United Way) and hosts several fundraisers throughout the year (BBQ’s, Pub nights and workshops). Other performances include being hired to perform at the NHL All Star Fan Fair 2012, dancing at the opening ceremonies of the Canadian National We Day 2014 and 2015, and performing at the opening ceremonies for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Summer Games!
The Non-Competitive Team:
This non-auditioned team gathers for drop-in classes every Friday from 3-4pm in the Montpetit Dance studio, which are open to all levels including beginner. Styles vary every week and no registration is necessary. Each class costs $10; come to 3 classes and your 4th class is free!
