The Port Colborne, Ontario native and women’s team captain had a tremendous weekend representing the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees at this season’s OUA swimming championships which were held at Brock University.
Demers smashed the former Gee-Gees varsity record by more than five seconds with her fourth place 4:22.94 finish in the 400m freestyle.
Demers won bronze as a member of the 4x50m freestyle relay and set another uOttawa record with their time of 1:48.45.
She was also a part of the four women relay team that swam to a bronze medal performance in the 4x100m freestyle relay and established a uOttawa record with a time of 3:56.84. The women finished the race eleven seconds faster than their seed time and more than two seconds quicker than the previous record.
The French major also finished 7th in the 800m freestyle, 9th in the 200m freestyle and 10th in the 100m freestyle.
The Gee-Gees women’s swim team finished the OUA championships in fifth place overall.
Demers and three other women will now compete at the 2010 CIS Swimming Championships which will be held at the University of Toronto from February 18-20.
