@ OUA Championships at Brock on February 4-7, 2010.

Second-year swimmer Rob Irvine (Whitby, Ont.) captured a silver medal in the 200m IM, with his lifetime best time at 2:05.30 and shaving an incredible two seconds off his previous uOttawa record.

Another new addition to the Gee-Gees CIS team was made today with the fifth place finish of third-year Ottawa native Sean Dawson in the 200m freestyle with a time of 1:52.55.

The men’s 4x100m Medley Relay came out in fourth, with Peter Kwok-Yan Suen (Hong Kong, China), Bernard Joosten (Uxbridge, Ont.), Irvine, and Adam Tudor (Windsor, Ont.) setting a new Gee-Gees record with their 3:52.31 finish.

Second-year women’s team captain Kara Demers (Port Colborne, Ont.) finished ninth in the 200m freestyle and Suen finished eighth in the 100m butterfly.  Third-year swimmer Andrew Davis (Peterborough, Ont.) and Joosten finished seventh and eighth respectively in the 100m breaststroke.

With preliminaries in the morning, the only event not followed in the evening by the finals was the 200m backstroke, with the finals on Sunday morning. Megan Wood (Innismore, Ont.) will be swimming in the B-Final for the women’s side, and stay posted as first-year rookie Adam Best (Ottawa, Ont.), Suen and fifth-year veteran Hans Fracke (Uxbridge, Ont.) all compete in the men’s A-Final.

"I thought the team stepped up and raced really well today and we're really excited to Rob Irvine swimming so well two weeks before CIS. Tomorrow should be another good day for us," said Head Coach Derrick Schoof.
