GAMESTORY:
With the playoffs fast approaching, the Gee-Gees women’s hockey team is counting on every one of their games to help secure them a spot and a shot at the national championships.
They did not let their fourth remaining game against the Concordia Stingers pass them by Saturday evening, as they went on to defeat them 5-3.
The Gee-Gees scored the only two goals of the first period and one more goal early in the second period to secure a 3-0 lead. The Stingers came back with two goals in the second period, to trail by one going into the third period.
Gee-Gees fifth-year forward Cassandra Sparks (Stouffville, Ont.) scored two goals in the final period to help her team to a two point lead and the win.
The Gee-Gees outshot the Stingers 38-24.
This win now puts them third in the QSSF, one spot above the Carleton Ravens.
Gee-Gees head coach Miguel Filiatrault was pleased with his team’s performance. “We had a bit of a bad second period, but besides that everyone played really well,” he said. “We needed the two points, so we’re happy.”
The Gee-Gees are on the road again next Saturday, February 13, as they travel to McGill (16-0 QSSF) to face the undefeated Martlets. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
